The Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MECASA) is organized to end sexual violence and to support high quality sexual violence prevention and response within Maine’s communities.
At the core of our work, we are here for survivors.
MECASA is committed to engaging in programming which is deeply informed by the expertise of the providers working within Maine’s counties as well as by national research and trends. This commitment is reflected in our structure, mission, and the way we function. MECASA was founded as a coalition of providers, as opposed to simply being an entirely autonomous organization. MECASA’s mission statement intentionally includes the word “organized” to reflect the central role the provider community plays in the fulfilling our mission.
To meet our mission, MECASA works to:
• With member center directors, set the vision and direction for statewide services;
• Expand funding for sexual assault prevention and intervention programming statewide*;
• Develop and coordinate victim-centered statewide messaging; and
• Increase the capacity of providers and partners to do their work through statewide training, technical assistance, and resource development.
We are available to answer your questions, to dream-storm, to help connect you with resources, develop and deliver training (with you or for you), and to do whatever we can to ensure that local sexual assault support centers have the tools they need to do their best work preventing and responding to sexual violence in Maine. Check out our Ask a MECASA Friend Guide to find out more about the areas of focus for each MECASA team member or contact one through the staff page.
